When you visit Japan, most of you may use Haneda, Narita or Kansai airports, which are the three biggest international airports in Japan. But of course, we also have other 84 airports from local and small to semi-bigger ones.
This time I’ll pick out Fukuoka airport among them. It is like the entrance for Kyushu, and also the number of Fukuoka airport users is tied for fourth in Japan. It’s after the three biggest international airports.
In addition, Fukuoka airport is located within 5km of the center of Fukuoka city. Very accessible, isn’t it? There is a bullet train on Fukuoka city so you can get a easy access to the inside of Kyushu and even Chugoku area.
I’ll show you three spots you can visit easily from Fukuoka airport.
1. Dazaifu Tenmangu in Fukuoka prefecture
When it comes to Fukuoka, you mustn’t miss Dazaifu Tenmangu, a shrine. Dazaifu Tenmangu is one of the biggest shrines in Kyushu. Tenmangu is the shrine for Tenjinsama. That’s the god that helps students. So many students often come here to pray before entrance exams. By the way, here Tenjinsama is Sugawarano Michizane, who was a real person that lived during the ninth century. Some statues in Dazaifu Tenmangu are related to him.
2. Beppu Kaihin sand beach in Oita prefecture
Oita prefecture has many hot springs and then is called “hot spring prefecture.” Beppu onsen and Yufuin onsen are the most famous hot springs in Oita, I suppose. But here, at Beppu Kaihin sand beach, you can enjoy a unusual hot spring. That is sand bath! You lie down on the sand beach and then the staff cover your body with sand except for your face. It takes only 10 minutes that your body becomes warm. It’s also nice feeling the cold wind through your face. After some minutes, you’ll go to a place and wash your body there.
3. Shimonoseki city in Yamaguchi prefecture
Yamaguchi prefecture is wide east to west. It’s actually pretty easy to go to western part of the prefecture from Fukuoka prefecture. Shimonoseki city is in the western part of main island of Japan and very famous for its fishing industry. There is a big fish market too. You can get fresh fishes and eat them on the grass nearby. Moreover, there is a bridge over Kyushu and main island of Japan too. It’s lit up at night and so beautiful.

さて、その中の一つ、福岡空港は主要地域拠点空港に位置付けられています。九州の玄関口でもあり、年間利用者数は日の空港で４番目。大都市国際空港に次ぐ大きさなのです。
福岡空港は市街地から5km以内の位置にありアクセスの良い空港として知られています。新幹線も通っており、福岡を起点に九州内部、そして中国地方にもアクセスすることが出来ます。
今回は福岡空港から気軽に旅行出来る場所をご紹介します。
１．太宰府天満宮（福岡県）
福岡といえば！天神さま～！
学業の神様とも知られている太宰府天満宮。受験前に来た人も多いのではないでしょうか。菅原道真が祀られています。太宰府天満宮にあるいくつかの銅像は菅原道真にゆかりのあるものなのだそうです。
２．別府海浜砂場（大分県）
大分県は多くの温泉を持っていることから「おんせん県」とも言われていますね。有名な温泉と言えば、別府温泉や湯布院温泉でしょうか。
「別府海浜砂場」ではちょっとユニークな温泉を楽しめます。その名も…砂風呂！お湯には入らず、暖かい砂に入るのが特徴です。顔だけ出す姿はちょっとシュール。でも１０分ほどで体がぽかぽかになります。顔に当たる冷たい風が、また気持ちいいんですよね。
３．下関市（山口県）
山口県は横に広い県ですが、山口県の西側へは、福岡空港からアクセスした方が実は簡単だったりします。山口県下関市は漁業が盛んで、新鮮な魚介が食べれます。市場で買って、近くの芝生でのんびり食べるのが最高です。
また本州と九州をつなぐ橋、関門橋も下関市にあります。夜のライトアップはとてもきれいですよ。
